Time for a change
My A&R Man at the time was Wally Ridley he always wanted me to work with a big band, but my argument was I wouldnt be able to go out & reproduce it to an audience on tour. I really wanted a change I was sixteen & I Didnt want the frilly dresses I wanted to be a female Mick jagger. To get my own way I went for an audition in London dressed in a grey baggy t shirt, grey jeans no make up hair a mess. They were looking for a singer like millie that kind of voice. They had already auditioned 150 girls This was with a company called Embassy I sang I saw her standing there (Beatles cover)They loved it. We sat down & discussed where we went from here, I said I wanted to change my record label & wanted a band thats when I went to parlophone & recorded Heatwave. The band were fantastic & we just got on well(The prestons) At the same time a song was written for me called I hear you talking its still one of my favorites.
The Singles
I have met & worked with a few people in my time,Freddy & The Dreamers,The Beatles I also met Dusty Springfield she was actually in my dressing room, she was told to leave because miss jones was here,I was horrified so I knocked the door & told her not to worry,She left me a lovely note on the mirror thanking me.One of my memorabel moments was when I walked into a venue in Germany & a female singer was singing one of my songs.I was touring Germany with The Mad Classix at that time having turned my back on my recording. In England I had just released Heatwave with the prestons it would have done a lot better if I had stayed to promote it. It just clipped the charts. I had 4 singles released in the 60s Heatwave,The boy I saw with you,Wait till bobby gets home & Why do lovers break each others hearts
